KX-TA824 Expandability Configuration

So many of you have express a little confusion about which cards work with which other cards, on the KX-TA824, when expanding the system, that we thought we’d create a guide to help you sort it out. Condition:

• There are 6 configuration options for KX-TA824 expandability, including the base KX-TA824 3X8.  For a detailed explanation, refer to page 2 and/or Section 2.3, Installing Optional Service Cards of the Installation Manual.

Configuration Options for the KX-TA824:

• The available expandability options are as follows. 

•    3 CO X 8 Exts                - Base cabinet, no expansion card )

6 CO X 16 Exts              - Base cabinet +

• (1) KX-TA82483 ( 3X8 expansion card )

6 CO X 24 Exts              - Base cabinet +

• (1) KX-TA82483 ( 3X8 expansion card ) +
• (1) KX-TA82470 ( 0X8 expansion card )

8 CO X 24 Exts        -  Base cabinet +expansion cards

3 CO X 16 Exts               - Base cabinet +

• (1) KX-TA82470 ( 0X8 expansion card )

5 CO X 16 Exts              - Base cabinet +

(1) KX-TA82481 ( 2X8

-    (1) KX-TA82483 ( 3X8 expansion card ) +

-    (1) KX-TA82481 ( 2X8 expansion card )

• Note: Be advised that other combinations will not work.  You cannot install a KX-TA824-81 (2X8 card) with a KX-TA824-70 (0X8 card) on the same system.

NOTE: You actually CAN install the KX-TA824-81 card on the base system with out first installing the KX-TA824-83 card first. Only two issues you you should know about before you do this.

• The KX-TA824-81 card will not have any “stand off” screws to secure the KX-TA824-81 board to the KX-TA824 mother board. It certainly will connect to the Mother Board, just be aware that it  will be held in place only by the pins that connect it to the mother board, and the tabs on the front of the card. Many of out customers have done this without any incident as of yet.
• Since you are adding two more CO lines to the system, it’s only natural that you would think that those two additional line would be line “4” and “5”. HOWEVER, since Panasonic designed the KX-TA824-81 card to be used AFTER the KX-TA824-83 card had been installed, the KX-TA824 system recognizes them as line “7” and “8”.

            As long as you can live with these two limitations, the KX-TA824-81 board can be installed without first installing the  

         KX-TA824-83 board first.
