Setting
up your TVS50 Voicemail to work with your KX-TAW848 Telephone
System
Congratulations on your Panasonic TVS50
purchase! This page is designed to get your TVS50 up and running
with your Panasonic KX-TAW848
Telephone System in no time at all. First things first though.
If you haven't done so already, you're going to need to set
up your KX-TAW848
Telephone System to accept your TVS50
Voicemail. If you haven't done that, CLICK HERE now to
do that first. Got that done? Great! Next you're going to
need a 9pin-to-9pin, A.K.A DB9-to-DB9 ‘Null Modem Cable”.
If you need to purchase one of those you can CLICK HERE to
order one.
Now
that we have that out of the way, let's get started.
1)
Get Connected
Connect
one end of your Null Modem cable to the TVS50's
9pin RS232 serial port. Then connect the other end of the
Null Modem Cable to the Com port on your laptop or PC.
2)
Open HyperTerminal.
HyperTerminal
is a communications software built into all Windows operating
systems going back at least as far as Windows95. To get to
it using Windows XP do the following. Click START, PROGRAMS,
ACCESSORIES, COMMUNICATIONS, HYPERTERMINAL.
3)
Name your HyperTerminal connection.
Now
we have to set up a “New Connection”. So go ahead and name
your new connection like I have below.

4)
Assigning the Com port.
Where
it says “connect using” use the drop down menu to your laptop
or PC's 9-pin Com port as shown below.

5)
Setting the Com port properties
Set
your Com port settings EXACTLY like you see it below. Now
click “Apply” and tap the “Enter” key once.

6)
The Quick setup
Now
we get to start setting up the TVS50
to "Talk" to your KX-TAW848
telephone system. Click on 5 “Quick setup”

7)
An explanation of what Quick setup does to your
TVS50.
Read
through these two paragraphs and then click “Enter”

8)
Selecting the system to connect to.
THIS
IS VERY IMPORTANT!!! This is where we tell the
TVS50 what Telephone system it's going to be connected
to. Look CLOSELY. Do you see a choice for the KX-TAW848???
No. So what gives…right? Here's the scoop. The TVS50
has been around longer than the KX-TAW848
has. So, since the KX-TD series telephone systems use the
same signaling as the
KX-TAW848 telephone system does, we select 5 “KX-TD816/KX-TD1232/KX-TA1232”.
The TVS50
Voicemail system will begin to automatically configure itself.
WARNING!!! If you select 7 “KX-TA series” your TVS50 WILL
NOT WORK!!!

9)
Mailbox setup.
The
TVS50 will
look to your KX-TAW848
for active extensions to assign mailboxes to. We recommend
that you simply press the “S” key to go to the next screen.
You can always delete mailboxes if you need to later. Most
never need to.

10)
Setting up the TVS50 ports to answer.
Here
is where we tell the TVS50
how to answer when calls are directed to it. The “Custom 1”
and “Custom 2' that's referred to is where you'll be able
to ‘Customize” your auto attendant to direct callers to a
desired telephone extension, or group of extensions (I.E.
“Press 1 for sales, Press 2 for shipping…etc.). More about
that in another section. For now, press “S” to move on to
the next screen.

11)
Your Password.
This
is where you will enter a password. You can just hit the enter
key for both “New password” and “verification” if you don't
want one. I highly advise that you pick one though. It needs
to be 4-digits. Make sure you WRITE IT DOWN!!! Some installers
like to write it on the inside of the TVS50
cover. Whatever you do, DON'T LOSE IT!!! Without it, you will
probably have to totally re-program the TVS50.
NO, there is no “back door” password for us to bail you out
with.

12)
Restarting the system.
Not
much to do here. Just enter “yes”, and the system will restart.

13)
Port test.
Now
you'll just have to sit tight while the system re-boots itself.
At the end of the restart, you should see “Active CO's: 1
2 – DPT Interface Connection is Established – ON LINE MODE”.

Congratulations!
Your TVS50
and KX-TAW848
systems are now connected!
